Tiki inspired immersive water park

ropical Islands is one of Europe’s largest indoor waterpark and resort destinations, set inside a vast former airship hangar outside Berlin. KCC Entertainment Design was brought in to redesign two zones — a dry entertainment area and a wet zone — across a combined 6,000 sqm. The scope covered concept and schematic design for both, with a clear focus on making the space work harder commercially while keeping the immersive, resort-scale feel that draws guests back.

The dry zone redesign centred on integrating active and passive experiences rather than separating them. Sunbed areas — traditionally low-yield real estate in waterparks — were reworked into premium leisure zones with better layout, visibility, and upsell logic built in. The result is a space that generates more revenue per sqm without losing the relaxed atmosphere guests expect. Across the wet zone, KCC developed a guest flow and programming strategy designed to extend dwell time and increase spend across both families and adult groups.

The project also included the design of Ohana Town, a social entertainment venue inside the destination’s new themed hotel. Ohana Town connects the hotel directly to the wider waterpark experience — giving hotel guests a reason to stay on-site longer and giving day visitors an additional destination within the resort. It is KCC’s approach to social entertainment design applied at resort scale: programming that drives footfall between areas, builds cross-spend, and turns a single visit into a full-day stay.
